The Howden Pantomime and Theatre Groups is (Covid permitting) putting on the pantomime version of Dracula (as written by members of the cast). The first night is on Wednesday January 19, and for the following 3 nights at 7.30, with a matinee on Saturday January 22nd, at 2 pm. Ticket prices are:adults £10, children under 12 £5, together with buy one, get one free for the first night.

Although apparently an odd choice for a pantomime, it does actually have many of the usual features of pantomime - a Dame role, lots of 'Oh, no - you didn't; Behind You', audience participation, lots of silly jokes, some slapstick etc etc. There are many musical numbers - some of which are even quite up-to-date! Dracula is played by Stanimira Brown - a not very tall Bulgarian lady with a wonderful Eastern European accent - in order to appear more imposing, she is followed by a servant with a box to stand on. Her 'wickedness' is somewhat diminished by her propensity for malapropisms - so that when she wants to summon Satan at the finale set in Whitby, she manages to summon Santa instead - although all is not necessarily what it seems....
