Nine in ten store staff have been verbally abused this year, says Usdaw

Usdaw’s Health and Safety Officer Doug Russell tells us why they want the government to introduce legislation to protect shopworkers after a new report revealed a shocking number of abuse and threats to store staff.

The shopworker’s union Usdaw has released shocking statistics from their annual survey that reveals nearly nine in ten store staff have been verbally abused this year with almost two thirds of them being threatened.

During Respect for Shopworkers Week, Usdaw is campaigning for a new protection of workers law, like the ground-breaking legislation that came into force in Scotland in August.

The union is urging the Government to extend those protections to shopworkers across the rest of the UK.
