Major refurbishment for Bridlington Bus Station delayed

The 45 EastRider service will continue to stop at the bus station whilst work is delayed

The major refurbishment estimated to Bridlington Bus Station which is expected to cost £35,000 is to be delayed by three weeks.

Work on the bus station, in Princess Street was due begin this week, however the refurbishment has now been delayed due to supply issues.

The bus station will reopen to passengers today (Wednesday 12 January), and normal services will resume.

The station will now temporarily close on Monday 31 January to allow the refurbishment to begin.

New bus shelters are to be installed as part of the three weeks of major refurbishments which get underway on Monday.

The £35,000 project will also include the cleaning of tarmac areas, re-painting of pedestrian guardrails.

When the refurbishment work begins, the East Yorkshire Buses service 45/45a (York via Driffield and Pocklington) will instead stop at Stop C - Queen Street (Outside Cosmic Gifts).

Colin Walker, group manager for transportation services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said:

“We apologise to bus passengers in Bridlington for this unfortunate delay, but this is beyond our control.

“We want to keep disruption to an absolute minimum, which is why we are reopening the station until the scheme is ready to begin.

“We are pleased we can now co-ordinate our work with the road scheme, which has cut down the disruption time for passengers.

“When the work is finally complete, people will notice a big difference to the station, with a much brighter and more welcoming look.”

Bridlington Bus Station has already benefited from some investment with the addition of real-time bus information screens.
